  • ISTA Science Quiz Dublin Heats
    20th Nov ISTA Science Quiz Dublin Heats Congratulations to the Senior Science Quiz team of Daniel Ahmed, Emma Costello and Ben Fitzpatrick on finishing 3rd out of 44 teams in the Dublin heat of the ISTA Science Week Quiz in Trinity College last Thursday night. We wish them well in the All-Ireland final next Saturday, 25th November in Trinity College. Well done also to Elena Donitzky, Sungyun Kim and Clodagh Moran who finished joint fourth on the night.
  • Kilcoole Music Festival Winners
    20th Nov Kilcoole Music Festival Winners Well done to the Junior Choral Group, who were awarded first place in the Potterton-Heatequip Cup at the Kilcoole Music Festival this weekend, with a brilliant mark of 92%. The adjudicator praised the choir for their beautiful singing and excellent story-telling. Congratulations to all in involved.
  • Sligo International Choral Festival
    19th Nov Sligo International Choral Festival Senior Choir competed in the Sligo International Choral Festival last Friday, making this their third trip to these competitions. We were absolutely delighted once again, to be warmly welcomed by principal of St John's National School, Mr Bernard Mulhern, by now a familiar face to the choir! The Sligo primary school provided a wonderful rehearsal space for choir members to eat lunch, stretch legs after a long bus journey and warm-up their voices. The group gave assured performances of their four chosen pieces in two classes for secondary schools, with a particularly moving rendition of Ballade to the Moon to finish their day's work in Sligo. Wesley can be sure that the Senior Choir represented the College proudly and both adjudicators found much to enjoy and commend in their performances.
  • European Science Olympiad
    19th Nov European Science Olympiad Transition Year students Rachel Price ( Biology ) and Ceri Arnott ( Chemistry) competed in the Irish finals of the European Science Olympiads on Saturday 11th November. Over 300 high-achieving students from around the country had been selected to compete in DCU, based on their outstanding Junior Certificate Science and Maths results. Ceri achieved Highly Commended and Rachel won a Bronze medal, which puts her into a final training and selection process for the Irish team. Well done to them both.

  • Fr Frank Maher Music Prize
    12th Nov Fr Frank Maher Music Prize Congratulations to Killian White who won 1st prize in the Father Frank Maher music competition on Friday night, November 10. Killian competed against six other Leaving Cert students from around Ireland for a bursary of €5,000. Wesley are especially proud as Martina O'Connell was also a finalist in this competition. Well done to both of these exceptionally talented musicians.
  • University Scholars
    7th Nov University Scholars Trinity College Dublin announced that an unprecedented ten Wesley pupils have been awarded a prestigious Entrance Exhibition Scholarship on the basis of their high performance in the Leaving Certificate. These include: Serena Pedlow, Grant Arnott, Daire Connolly, Katharine Woods, Katy Beckett, Eric Sheeran-Purcell, Christopher Nixon, Claire Campbell, Lauren Rowe and Rakesh Ahmed. This is the largest Wesley cohort to receive Entrance Awards. Furthermore, Gina Ryan also received an Academic Scholarship from Dublin City University, while six past pupils will be recognised as High Achievers at the UCD Entrance Scholars Awards. These include: Jenny Clarke, Emily Esmonde, Oran Grehan, Ben Ralph, Mark Samuel and Grace Teo. The awards highlight the exceptional talent and achievement of the Class of 2017. We wish them well in their future academic careers.
  • Poetry Aloud
    27th Oct Poetry Aloud Congratulations to Jody Maiden on winning the overall prize at the College Poetry Aloud finals on Thursday 26th October. Jody also won the Senior category in the competition. Holly Micklem took the Intermediate award and Toto Daly won the Junior section. Runners up in the three categories were Bevan Armstrong, Holly Leech and Hannah Murray, while Bethan Tenant was recognized for her exceptional achievement in reaching seven finals in seven years in Wesley. Twenty Wesley students reached the finals of the Poetry Aloud, a competition that has grown from a Wesley event to one now organised nationally.
  • Senior Choir Rising Stars Concert
    23rd Oct Senior Choir Rising Stars Concert Congratulations to the Senior Choir on their wonderful contribution to a magnificent concert last night in Tullow Church. Soloists Rosie Murphy, Fiadh Eddison, Killian White, Bethany Edgar, Victoria Brooks, Daniel Ivers and Matthew Harris also produced fabulous performances which wowed and entertained the sold-out crowd. It was a really enjoyable evening of high-quality music and the charity Down Syndrome India are extremely grateful to the Wesley choir and musicians for making it all happen.     20th Oct Royal Russell MUN Conference Congratulations to all students who went on the Royal Russell international MUN conference last weekend and to Ms. Sharkey for giving up her time. Special mention must go to Síofra Watson, who was selected as a Chair for this international conference, and to Jonah Lindroos, Bevin Armstrong and Imogen Forrest who were awarded Distinguished Delegate awards.

    2nd Oct Hospice Coffee Morning The annual Hospice Coffee Morning took place in school on September 22nd. Staff and Sixth Year students generously donated to the cause. The total raised was ?650 and this will be greatly appreciated in Our Lady's Hospice Blackrock and Harold's Cross.
