        <title>Poetry Aloud</title>
        <description>Congratulations to Jody Maiden on winning the overall prize at the College Poetry Aloud finals on Thursday 26th October. Jody also won the Senior category in the competition. Holly Micklem took the Intermediate award and Toto Daly won the Junior section. Runners up in the three categories were Bevan Armstrong, Holly Leech and Hannah Murray, while Bethan Tenant was recognized for her exceptional achievement in reaching seven finals in seven years in Wesley. Twenty Wesley students reached the finals of the Poetry Aloud, a competition that has grown from a Wesley event to one now organised nationally.</description>

        <title>Senior Choir Rising Stars Concert</title>
        <description>Congratulations to the Senior Choir on their wonderful contribution to a magnificent concert last night in Tullow Church. Soloists Rosie Murphy, Fiadh Eddison, Killian White, Bethany Edgar, Victoria Brooks, Daniel Ivers and Matthew Harris also produced fabulous performances which wowed and entertained the sold-out crowd. It was a really enjoyable evening of high-quality music and the charity Down Syndrome India are extremely grateful to the Wesley choir and musicians for making it all happen.         <description>It has been a very busy week for the Wesley College Debating Society as seven teams took part in competitions across Dublin. Well done to all of the teams who participated. On Tuesday, Emma Costello and Hector Andrews McCarroll successfully got through a gruelling first round of the Leinster Schools in Trinity College. Well done, also, to Sara Rafter who was appointed Senior Chair for 2017-2018.

The principal launched proceedings with a strong speech in assembly on the importance of empathy in our interactions with others. The 2nd Years then went straight to a workshop with Monica Rowe from the ISPCC.         <description>Senior Choir were delighted to receive a Distinction in their recent Royal Irish Academy of Music Choral Singing Gold Standard exam. Achieving an incredibly high mark of 93% for their chosen programme of music, they have reached distinguished themselves at this high level for the third consecutive year.  The examiner visited the choir on campus for an early before-school exam last month and he was more than impressed by the musical sophistication of this extraordinary choral ensemble.

        <description>On the back of the success of Senior Drama&#39;s production of The Importance of Being Earnest, it is wonderful to announce that Hannah Brady, one of the stars of last year&#39;s play Philadelphia, Here I Come, has been shortlisted in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category in the Bord Gais Energy Student Theatre Awards. This is a massive achievement as the awards receive submissions from over 300 schools all over Ireland. The ceremony takes place in May and we wish her the best of luck.

        <description>A team of four students from Ms Jackson&#39;s 5th Year French class proudly represented the College at an Inter-schools French table quiz hosted by Loreto on the Green and the French Teachers Association on February 2. A total of twenty schools competed in this quiz which was conducted completely in French over a 2.5 hour period. The Wesley team achieved an outstanding second place out of the twenty teams. The proud team members are Elena Donitzky, Charlie Eddershaw, Martina O?Connell and Aoife Robertson. They all received book prizes on the night for their exceptional performance.

        <description>The College was represented at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition by Transition Year student Josejuan de Leon. Over 2100 projects were submitted, so gaining the opportunity to compete with the 550 selected finalists is an achievement in itself. His project in the Technology category and was entitled &quot;A better dew collection system&quot;. His aim was to develop systems using recycled materials that can collect water from the air in arid regions of the world to supplement drinking supplies and irrigation. He was supported by the 1st Years who visited the exhibition on Thursday. He is to be commended for all his hard work in the preparations and throughout the week.</description>

Rosie&#39;s composition featured in the American series Into the Badlands; which is the third most watched new series in the US. Not alone was Rosie&#39;s composition used, she also played the harp and acted in one of the scenes with Marton Csokas, of Equaliser and Lord of the Rings fame.

        <description>Trinity College Dublin announced this week that five Wesley past pupils have been selected for the prestigious Entrance Exibition Award, as a result of their high performances in the Leaving Certificate Exam. These include: Andrew Burgess, Isabelle Deladiennee, Beth Dover, Ella Hannon and Dawn Marie Kelly.

UCD also have a similar award for high achieving students and two Wesley past pupils have been honoured, they are:  Lauren Rowe and Stephen Finn. Many congratulations to all seven students from the whole Wesley community.
