Sports Update
Tennis
The Junior A girls won their friendly against King’s Hospital last Wednesday to start off the weeks matches. The Senior B girls lost 2-1 against Sion Hill while the Minor B had a hard fought 3-0 victory against them with two of the three matches going to a tie break.
The boys also played three matches this week with the U14 A’s losing 4-1 and the Seniors winning 5-0 against High School on Wednesday. The Seniors were back in action on Friday recording a 4-1 win over Colaiste Eoin through Rob McCollum, Andrew Sykes and Ben Fitzpatrick all winning their singles games and Eoin Mulvey and Gus Boothman winning their doubles.
Cricket
Senior 1st girls lost to St Andrews by 6 wickets. A good first innings from Wesley with Siofra Watson’s scoring 29 but unfortunately St Andrews proved able to chase the total. The Junior C girls also lost to St Andrews by 39 runs.
The first year boy B team won their friendly against St Columbas without a loss of a wicket except retirees. The Minor A boys lost to St Andrews by 21 runs. Well done to Tom Power (53) and Nicholas Elliot (60 not out). The Minor B’s beat Mount Temple by 40 runs with Jack Crennon scoring 37 not out. Johannes Kasselman and Conor Sutton took two wickets each. 1st year A’s lost to Gonzaga by 9 wickets.
On Friday, the first year A boys lost by 34 runs to Sandford Park. The Junior A girls produced an impressive performance to chase Malahide down 106 runs to win while the 1st year A girls also beat Mount Anville by 49 runs.
The Junior boys defeated St Andrews on Saturday by 9 wickets. Tim Elliott made 36 runs not out and Craig Mackay got an impressive bowling score, including a hat trick, of 3-9. Well done to all those on the cricket field last week.
Athletics
Congratulations to all those who took part in the East Leinsters last week. Wesley claimed 2nd place in the Inter 4 x 300m relay thanks to Emma Paul, Emily McKay, Grace Dervan and Lara Gillespie. Lara also came first in the 800m and Grace came second in the 1500m. Abbie Taylor won gold in the 3000m. Four more golds were won by Hannah Murray in the Minor hurdles, David Bosch in the Minor hurdles and Bobbi Gillespie in both the Junior walk and the pole vault (1.7m jump). Sam Fitzgerald claimed bronze in the Minor boys long jump and Ade Ogunyemi took home silver in the Junior shot putt. Carla Hudson claimed bronze in the Junior girls 100m. Siun Woods and Warren Mac William both qualified for Leinster in the girls Minor javelin and the boys shot putt respectively. A fantastic achievement all round, thank you to all those who took part and represented the College.
Hockey
The Junior A and B girls travelled down to Cork over the weekend to play in a blitz against C of I, Harlequins and Ashton. The A’s proved to be the strongest side in the tournament winning their first two matches 2-0 against both Ashton and C of I and drawing 0-0 against Harlequins. They were the only team not to lose a match. The B’s lost their first match 3-0 against Ashton, put up a great fight to draw 0-0 against C of I and lost 2-0 against Harlequins. Well done to both teams who travelled and a special mention to the players of the tournament; Holly Micklem, Emma Paul, Jessica Mitchell Doyle and Erin Beatt.
