Hockey
Congratulations to the Junior A boys who fought their way back in a tough match against Newpark on Friday to progress through to the final. After a 1-1 draw and scoreless extra time, the boys won out on strokes.
The girls followed this success on Saturday with Siun Woods claiming a hat trick for the First year A’s against Foxrock to see them into the semi-final of the cup. The First year B and C team won their friendly’s against Alex 2-1 and 1-0 respectively.
Congratulations to the Senior first XI boys who beat Mt. Temple 7-2 in the cup semi-final on Tuesday. They now play in the final next Wednesday. Good luck boys.
Commiserations to the U-13 A boys who lost 2-1 to St. Andrews in the cup final. Despite going 2-0 down they showed great character to get back into the game at 2-1 with a drag flick by Ben Stewart. Unfortunately, they could not find an equaliser.
The Junior A boys were back in action yesterday against High School in their cup final. Unfortunately, High School went 1-0 up against the run of play. Wesley had a number of short corners in the second half but could not convert. The final score was 1-0.
The First year A girls were also in action in their cup semi-final, beating Muckross 3-0. Their final will be coming up shortly.
A long-lived rivalry between St. Gerard's and Wesley continued on Thursday morning in the 2nd XI girls Leinster league final. The game started off at a high pace with St. Gerard's making most of the play in the first five minutes. Wesley soaked up the pressure and slowly got into the game winning a short corner which was well defended by Gerard's. In the lead up to half time, St. Gerard's scored a well worked breakaway goal to go 1-0. Wesley came out firing after half time, putting St. Gerard's defence under a lot of pressure but to no reward. A great game of hockey, seeing girls from both sides giving their absolute everything.
Rugby
Hard luck to both the 2nd XV, who lost 24-10 to Kilkenny College in their last league match yesterday, and to the 3rd XV who lost 41-29 against St. Michael's College on Tuesday in their last league match. Thank you to all the rugby players for representing us this season.
