Success over the Summer!

There have been some significant individual achievements over the summer months, and just in case you missed some of them, here is a roundup of all of them. 

Cycling 

Lara Gillespie competing in several competitions throughout the summer claiming an outstanding haul. She won three national track titles, the sprint and scratch race and time trial, breaking the under-16 500m time trial national record. If that wasn’t enough, she went on to win a silver medal in the 10km time trial at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Gyor, Hungary, finishing just 3 seconds off Switzerland gold medal winner. 

Hockey 

Josh Greavey and Craig Mackey played for Ireland at under-16 level in the Six Nation tournament in England, while Robert McCollum and Matthew Walker played for Ireland at under-18 level. 2017 leavers, David Mawhinney and Mark Samuel joined the under-21 Ireland squad also. 

Cricket 

Emma Paul played for Ireland at under-15 level while Leah Paul represented Ireland at both under-17 and under-19. Max Collins played with Leinster at under-17 level also over the summer. 

Rugby 

Jamie Kavanagh was selected for the under-18 Leinster Schools rugby squad. 

Sailing 

Hannah Smyth represented Ireland at the Mirror World Sailing Championships in Falmouth. 

Athletics 

In June, a number of students took part in the all-Ireland Championships. Grace Dervon and Lara Gillespie represent us in the 1500m and 800m. David Bosch came 5th in the 75m minor hurdles and Hannah Murray came 4th her respective race. Ade Ogunyemi came 4th in the discus and Abbie Taylor came 1st in the 3000m intermediate race qualifying her for the Irish Schools team. 

A massive congratulations to all of the students mentioned above from everyone in Wesley College. They are true role models to their peers and fellow students.
