General Information for Parents Considering Applying to Wesley College
Parents considering sending their child to Wesley should explore the College website for a full picture of life in the College. This very brief introduction, giving a snapshot of the school, may be useful.
Wesley College Dublin was founded in 1845 by the Methodist Church in Ireland. It was originally situated in St Stephen’s Green, in the City centre, and in 1969 moved to its current location in Ballinteer in South Dublin.
The College accepts both boarding and day students and provides high quality academic education programmes with extensive extra-curricular opportunities.
Academic
School commences during the last week of August each year and finishes at the end of May.
Classes begin at 8:55am and finish at 4:00pm each day except on Wednesdays when school finishes at 1:20pm to facilitate sport and extra-curricular activities on Wednesday afternoons.
Students complete a three-year Junior Cycle programme. Transition Year takes place in the year prior to a two-year Leaving Certificate programme.
The Junior and Leaving Certificate state examinations take place in June each year.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Lunches
Lunch times are either 12:40pm – 1:20pm (Preps and Year 2, 4 and 6) or 1:20pm-2:00pm (Year 1, 3 and 5) with a number of dining options available. Parents of day students can purchase a full or light meal and are billed in arrears for any lunches taken. Students can also bring a packed lunch and there are various seating areas available.
Preparatory Class
We operate one Preparatory Class (age 11 to 12 years). The daily routine and annual calendar runs in parallel to that of the senior school. The class follows the 6th class Irish Primary Curriculum with the benefit of a large range of extra-curricular activities.
