Dedication of Gordon Wilson Library
The College was proud to welcome Mrs Joan Wilson and her daughter Julie-Ann to dedicate the Library in honour of her husband, Mr Gordon Wilson, who was a past pupil of Wesley. Gordon was known for his role as a peace campaigner in Northern Ireland following the death of his daughter Marie in the Enniskillen bombing. He famously gave an interview the day following the tragedy in which he stated that "I bear no ill will. I bear no grudge" against the people who perpetrated the bombing. In a number of assemblies last week, Mr Woods highlighted the extraordinary forgiveness and courage shown by Gordon and his family when confronted with painful adversity. The College was delighted to be able to honour his memory yesterday. Mrs Wilson unveiled the plaque and a framed image of Gordon on the stairway of the library. She also presented Mr Woods with two books about her husband and daughter which will be there for generations of students to read. She later addressed all the pupils in assembly before taking her leave after a very moving day for all concerned.
