Green Week 2021

Green Week 2021

This year’s theme for Green Week was climate justice as we are working towards the Green Flag for Energy and Global Citizenship. Climate justice focuses on how we in Ireland have caused climate change (through burning fossil fuels) but those who are suffering the most from impacts are the poorest, most vulnerable people around the world who did the least to cause it.

There were a number of great activities and competitions ongoing throughout the week from Reloved Fashion displays in the Concourse, the Sustainable Bake Off and Landmark to Landfill competition where pupils got the chance to create masterpieces from their bins! Videos in assemblies on a range of issues really captured the importance of green initiatives. These included inputs from Richard Grimes from Pure Clothing, Fiona Smiddy of Green Outlook and the charity VOICE Ireland speaking about plastic pollution and waste.  The 2nd year contingent of the Green Schools Committee also produced a video on the effects of our energy use and some changes we can make while also selling the Wesley Hydro flasks during lunchtimes later in the week. Climate Ambassador and Green Schools member 5th Year Amy Herskind produced a fantastic list of helpful apps, shops, books and videos to guide us on creating a more sustainable lifestyle.
