Preps get busy with books
The Preparatory Department
During the first half term, Preps got busy with books. As a class they are reading I am David and enjoyed some introductory detective work about the main character, a twelve year old boy named David. Added to that, they are reading a second novel about a child or young adult whose life is disrupted by war, chosen from a list of five. Last period on Tuesday, they head to the library for one period of uninterrupted reading, the perfect way to end the school day. During Book Week everyone enjoyed the luxury of reading for ten minutes after break. Sometimes it was very tempting to keep reading and not return to the normal lessons - but don’t tell Mr Woods! Two authors also visited the class. First of all Olive Mooney, who wrote The Chronicles of Cadaver College series, came and launched her new novel from Wesley. The Preps had lots of questions to ask and very much enjoyed Olive’s story of how she came to be a writer. Secondly, Patricia Forde, author of The Wordsmith paid Preps a visit and, in an entertaining manner, inspired the class about how to write. On the last day of the half-term, the class dressed as a book character and spoke for one minute about their choice. Everyone was delighted when Mrs Rowan the Librarian, awarded lots of chocolate for their efforts. What more could anyone ask?!
