The Bright Stars Awards

The Transition Year Mock Interview process began last September when we were delighted to welcome Ms. Mairead Fleming to the College to address 4th Year students on recruitment and interview skills. Mairead is the Managing Director of Ascension Executive Recruitment, and has extensive experience in this area, being a presenter on the TV3 Jobs Club and The Apprentice.

Taking her advice on board, students drew up and submitted their CV. Each received an individual written memo with suggestions for improvement, after which they applied for a job or course of their choice. Students were interviewed in December by one of a team of nine professional interviewers from various industries. Each candidate received comprehensive written and verbal feedback. Seventeen impressive students were short-listed and re-interviewed by Ms. Fleming in December. She kindly returned in January to present a Bright Star Award trophy to the two most outstanding students, Abby O’Sullivan and Niall Brady. The runners-up were Cara O’Hanlon, Molly Walters, Zexin Chen and Jose Juan de Leon Guillamon. No doubt the process will prove to be invaluable for all our TY students in the years ahead. We are indebted to Mairead for generously sharing her time and expertise.
