Sports Update

Badminton

Congratulations to the U-16 A girls U-16 B boys who played in DBS Semi Finals this week. Both teams came up against and lost to very strong opposition.

The U-19 A and U-19 B teams who all played in the Leinster Finals last week in a long day of matches. The B’s played 3 games, winning two against Moate and St Clodagh from Drogheda. In a very close match they unfortunately lost to Kilkenny in the deciding group match. The A’s beat St. Kiernan’s College Kilkenny and then faced their opposition from last week’s DBS final, Terenure College. Terenure got the better of Wesley in this final this week and took the title. Wesley U-19 A finished runners up adding to their great achievements this year.

Congratulations to all players for your commitment travelling to all your coaching again this year. Training continues for all age groups and any new players are always welcome.

Rugby

Well done to the JCT B XV on a marvellous 24-10 away win in the opening game of their JCT League campaign against Temple Carrig. After a slow start, Wesley were lifted by a fantastic break from Sam Fitzgerald, who assisted Bosola Ojewale to score the first of his two tries. Well done to Dean Cox and to Hugo Hjelseth who added two further scores to secure a bonus point win for the side. A special mention to Ricky Bucheli who was awarded man of the match with an outstanding performance.

With 43 players playing Rugby in 3rd year, it is fantastic to see the number of players that will go into the Senior Rugby panel for pre-season in the Spring.

Hard luck to the U-15 A XV who lost to St Mary's College. They will look forward to the upcoming challenge against Terenure College on Saturday 2nd February.

Hard luck to the JCT B XV who lost 24-14 away to Gonzaga in the second match of their league campaign. Well done to Sam Fitzgerald and Bosola Ojewale who crossed over for scores that were duly converted and to Scott Monaghan for a man of the match performance.

Well done to the U-14 A XV who had a convincing win away to St. Andrew’s College on Saturday. Well done to Milo Campbell who scored three tries and to captain Ferdia Spain who scored twice. Additional tries were added by Ryan Price, Ed Collins and Daniel Isaacson. Peter Montgomery had a successful morning from the tee, kicking seven conversions with Louis McSweeney adding a further two points.

U-14 B XV had a fantastic 28-0 win against St. Andrew’s, opposition they had previously lost to in November. Well done to try scorers Aaron Wallace, Evan Byrne, Adam Quinlan and Joe Daly, with all kicks successfully slotted by Oliver Morris.

Boys Hockey

The Senior 1sts beat Mt Temple 6-2 in the 1st round of the Senior Trophy.

Commiserations to the Junior B team who lost 3-1 to St. Killian’s As in the league semi-final despite going 1-0 up early on.

Congratulations to the Junior A’s who had a resounding 8-0 win against KH in the league semi-final. They now play St. Andrews at 3pm this Wednesday in King’s Hospital, we wish all the team good luck.

Girls Hockey

Huge Congratulations to the Senior 1’s on their semi-final win against The High School on Wednesday. Both goals came in the second half, the first from a short corner swept in from Emma Paul, the second from Lara Gillespie. Wesley dominated the second half with The High School having to work extremely hard to get by our defensive line. This is a fantastic achievement for all involved. We wish Sadhbh and the team the very best of luck on Thursday when they take on St. Andrew’s in the Cup Final.

The Senior 3’s had a disappointing loss in their league game to St. Columba’s 2-1. We were by far the stronger team but didn't manage to get the goals.

The Junior C’s put up a great performance against a very strong Temple Carrig team in the league play-off.
