Welcome

Welcome to Embury House, the boys’ boarding house where casual hours are spent relaxing in the ways you do at home.  Reading, listening, watching TV & DVDs, playing pool, board games, table soccer and table tennis, cooking; washing, ironing, discussing; surfing the web and of course, sleeping all consume most of the hours here and the best part about all of it is being with the great friends you make.  Scroll through the paragraphs to sample the atmosphere of living in Embury House.

Activities and Trips

One great aspect of boarding is not having to arrange details with your parents about being collected or dropped off.  Commuting time does not exist. There is independence in boarding with the freedom to choose to select whatever activity suits you.  All the College has to offer is on your doorstep from sports, to societies to music to clubs.  Indeed, the difficulty is having to decide!

" It beats Hogwarts!" (student)

After study on Wednesday evenings, there is social time when all Connect 4, Scrabble, Chess and Chickenfoot champions get to hone their talents.

There is the occasional Table Quiz in the Myles Hall.

On Saturday evenings during the viewing of a DVD, pizzas and take aways are delivered to those who have ordered them.  After church on Sundays, you are always treated to an outing. There are the Dublin museums which are fascinating.  We attend matches at Old Wesley Rugby Club in Donnybrook. Trips on the DART to Howth, Dun Laoghaire and Bray and the Luas, visits to parks and the Zoo are fun.  On wet days, the cinema in the Dundrum Town Centre is inviting.  Some of the Dublin hamburger restaurants and chippers are well-liked for tea.  Bowling and Quazar are popular.  The evening offers in door soccer.

The Junior Camp in the summer term is classic.  The Taney Scout Centre at Beckettsfield has been a long standing tradition.  Last year Hidden Valley in Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow was the much enjoyed venue.

Another annual event is the Christmas Dinner and disco.  This special evening is a real treat when appetites are satiated with all the delicious favourites and digestion is aided by jumping and bopping!  A visit to Funderland in the RDS contributes to the weekend.

When all is said and done, your academic progress is the most important which is why it has such a high priority in Wesley.

Study units are small and supervised by a member of staff allowing you the chance to study in a controlled and supportive environment.
